Havarti, which boasts a hefty 60% fat in dry matter, is actually enriched with more cream than regular Havarti so that it feels silkier and more luxurious in the mouth. This lovely cheese tastes just as buttery as it smells, and is ready to melt at the drop of a hat. Havarti is a semi-soft cow‘s milk cheese with myriad tiny holes and a creamy texture. About 100 years ago, a Danish farmer‘s wife traveled throughout Europe to learn the secrets of making cheese. She named her creation after her farm `Havarthi.` Havarti works well both grilled and melted, but also as a snack with figs, raisins, walnuts, apples and hearty bread.
Hand-finished Huntsman is comprised of two layers of Double Gloucester with a ring of Blue Stilton sandwiched in between. It makes a perfect centrepiece for a cheeseboard, and is delicious in a Ploughman’s lunch with a pint of good strong ale.
One of many fruit-infused Wensleydale varieties that Coombe Castle has to offer, Wensleydale with Apricots is at once creamy, buttery and palate pleasing with the addition of dried apricots. Adding a hint of color and bits of texture, this classic Wensleydale cheese, clean, mild and ivory-colored, gets an upgrade with this “Fruit of the Gods.” Wensleydale with Apricots is great in a traditional European-style breakfast featuring hot scones and smoked meats.
Our Coombe Castle Wensleydale is combined with the finest blueberries to make this classic sweet blend. The deep purple flecks of the blueberries create a striking contrast with the creamy coloured Wensleydale.
Originating from North Yorkshire, Wensleydale is considered a British classic. It is thought that the cheese dates back to the Middle Ages, being introduced in Britain by Cistercian monks who settled in the town of Wensleydale.
